Substitute Teachers Needed for Preschools, Schools, and After-School Programs

The Education Administration operates services for 3,500 children and students in preschool and pedagogical care, primary school, high school, adult education, as well as child and student health. The education administration also includes the municipality's food department.

During the spring term of 2026, we are looking for several substitutes for preschools, schools, and after-school programs.

Working as a substitute is both varied and fun! You will meet many children in a day and you are an important part of creating a safe and learning environment for our children and youth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a substitute, you will work both centrally and in the outskirts of the municipality. You will be offered work at different units within your desired focus at short notice.

Preschool

Here you will work together with colleagues in a team. Communication is one of the most important tools when working here. The preschool should, in collaboration with the home, create the best possible conditions for each child to develop and feel good, therefore contact with guardians becomes an important part of the work. You are a role model with a special responsibility to lead by example through a respectful and pleasant tone. In your role as a substitute, tasks may include meal situations, assisting with dressing and undressing, outdoor activities, and planned activities such as rest, creative work, and forest excursions.

School

In primary school, you will either work individually to teach a student group with associated preparatory and follow-up work, or together with regular staff. You are an important role model with a special responsibility to lead by example by acting respectfully and pleasantly. If you work as a teaching assistant, you may either follow an individual child or support a group of students.

After-School Program

The after-school program should, in collaboration with the home, create the best possible conditions for each child to develop and feel good. We help support the students in play and maintain good supervision over the students during their time at the after-school program, e.g., on the schoolyard. It is important that you make contact with the students and get to know them. During school hours, it may also include teaching work or resource time.

Adapted Primary School

At the adapted school, there are five classes and an associated after-school program. We are located at Högelidsskolan in the eastern part of Mariestad with beautiful green areas adjacent to the area. Here, significant individual support is provided to meet the students' needs and to create the best conditions for enjoyable learning. You will also have contact with guardians during drop-off and pick-up of the children.

QUALIFICATIONS

Working as a substitute requires high flexibility and social competence. Regardless of focus, it is important to be communicative and to have a genuine interest in the learning of children and students.

We primarily seek candidates with a post-secondary pedagogical education. Experience within our operations and/or studies in the child and leisure program is advantageous. If you also have other relevant experience with children and youth, perhaps from community work or other volunteer engagements, this is considered advantageous.

You must be proficient in the Swedish language in both speech and writing as communication and documentation are important work tools. Therefore, we see that you should have completed SFI studies. Certificates/transcripts must be presented at an interview.

Due to the requirements of the Work Environment Authority, you must be at least 18 years old. A B driver's license and access to a car is an advantage to broaden your work areas with us.

Booking Work Shifts

The municipality of Mariestad uses a web-based booking program: MEDVIND, to book substitutes. This means that you as a substitute will receive work requests via SMS. You, as a substitute, control your own personal substitute calendar in the booking system, indicating which days and times you are available for work. For this to work, you must have a mobile phone for us to communicate with you. We also use the email you receive upon hiring for general information regarding your employment.

About the Application

When you make your application, we want a CV that outlines your previous qualifications. You may omit the personal letter; instead, you will answer some selection questions. Attach copies of certificates and transcripts in your application, as well as the name, workplace, and phone number of at least one reference. We will keep your application throughout the application period and will get back to you if an interview becomes relevant.

We place great importance on good references and personal qualities where a positive attitude and good treatment are valued. Upon a job offer, you must present an extract from the Police Authority's criminal record: "Extract for work in schools or preschools 442.5". The extract can be requested either by mail or digitally.
